SA Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI)

Project: SA Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) Client: Hindmarsh Value: $5.2 million

The SA Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) is a 10-storey facility designed to attract considerable worldwide attention through ground-breaking scientific and medical research. The upper levels of the building are designated laboratory facilities for a range of tenants and research teams, and while their set up is similar to a regular office fit-out they also have laboratory fit-outs attached.

The project, which is situated on North Terrace adjacent to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital (NRAH), will include a cyclotron facility to assist in cancer treatment and research. This facility will be available to patients at the RAH.

Hindmarsh Plumbing began work on SAHMRI in August 2012. “One of the main challenges the team faced are the continual changes and re-design” said Rhett Hardie, Design Manager. “The difficulties we have been faced with are compounded through the interfaces with the NRAH, SA Health (the client) and SA Water. Keeping everybody in the loop can be pretty difficult sometimes.”
