Kinetica – Flinders University, Tonsley Park

Kinetica, the new facility for Flinders University at Tonsley, will accommodate the school of Computer Science, multiple disciplines of Engineering, and Mathematics. The school includes a large population of post-graduate students, academic research fellows and associated facilities. A significant portion of the facility will also accommodate representatives from private industry who will share research and meeting facilities with academics and students.

Project: Kinetica – Flinders University, Tonsley Park Client: Baulderstone Value: $5 million

The building is the first of three proposed developments (staged) at the revitalised Tonsley site to realise Flinders University’s strategic plan to establish itself at Tonsley and create key connections with industry and TAFE SA.

Design commenced in May 2013 with onsite installation beginning in August 2013. Our design and drafting team put an outstanding effort into delivering the design and modelling aspects of the project. Since August, the hydraulics site team has performed various tasks including the installation of inground and suspended drainage, non-potable water, trade waste, fire, gas, reticulation, and a solar hot water system.

With a hydraulics and mechanical plumbing package totalling $5 million, the project was completed in November 2014.

Whilst the team has faced varying challenges, early interaction between our design team and management with the builder and consultants have ensured that issues that normally arise at the beginning of plumbing installations have been dealt with giving the team a generally uninterrupted start.

Although only a small footprint of a site the hydraulics and mechanical packages to service the building are quite substantial and with a tight programme it is proving challenging.
